Stiff aero shifters

Hi, Does anyone know if you can make the shimano 105 aero shifters a bit less stiff. Basically it's quiet difficult at the moment to change gear. I know they are indexed, but should they be super stiff? I suppose the solution would be di2, but that will cost more then the bike! Thoughts please

Releasing the shift lock nut works, might be over tightened but check the rest first. cables new, moves freely and not frayed? derailleur working fine, full movement?
