Maximum Heart Rate

After reading many websites I have concluded my maximum heart rate should be around 186 when running.

My questions now .. is it ok to go over this?

I recently ran 3km with an average of 224bpm and that maxed at 231bpm, but I felt like I could run on. I then took it 'easy' running back the same 3km at 177average and that felt quite slow pace-wise. Resting heart rate at the moment is around 51bpm.

Its my third season of triathlons and I am just using the HRM for the first time, did I take the winter to easy or is that just the way my heart is?

Are you using a heartrate monitor? These seem like extraordinarily high numbers! If so take it from your wrist/neck as well and see if there is a discrepancy.
