Talkback: Are women-only races progressive or patronising?

for what it is worth, are women only events not a great way to encourage women to participate in sport? i've been privy to many triathlon specific situations in which women have shared/expressed the ugly than can be a 'competing male'; does not women only events address such concerns and create a more fun and encouraging atmosphere for women?
