tubs or clinchers

i'm looking at getting a new set of wheels and just wondered how many of you use tubs? are they any good? are they better than clinchers? i'm just worried that if i get a puncture during a race it will mess up my race, i at least can change/repair a puncture pretty quickly (used to get LOTS of punctures as a kid!)
