In a similar vein, i was thinking the other day about the 'bikers look'. Does anyone else do this when passing a fellow cyclist coming the other way:

Make eye contact and nod - kind of like how Mini Drivers flash their lights at each other.

And then almost crash when you ride past and try to get a good look at their steed as you ride.

    Is it just me?

No. It is essential. I was just emerging from my drive way at the weekend, on the bike, and an Uber-TreeFrog type (all the gear and some idea) came past - and acknowledged me with "the nod".

    I felt proper!

Now that is a quality machine, pure filth.I`ll attempt to post my bike but not very computer literate so i can`t promise
  • Hussler,

Now, I know that getting a good aero position is vital, but I cant believe that you dont fall off the front of the sadlle with that drop from the saddle to the bars!!!!

Oh my. Now, I was getting all hot and bothered over the Orbea and Ceepo frames, but now the Argon has turned up and has given me a slight carbon fattie. Then there's GG and his Dolan frame.... just like mine but with a fancy paint job. Oh God! Which one to choose, my naked carbon 'looks good with it's kit off' version or GG's version, which is like the trollopy 'Obviously does a turn' sister.

Am I taking the bike porn theme too far? Who cares!

Now for some 'specialist' material... some have said they fancy a bit of low-rent stuff. I'm talking well below 'Fiesta', well below even what you kind find on them nasty newsgroups. Here's some bike porn that'll bleach your eyes.

Lay-deez an' Gennerman, may I present a 7000+ mile Halford's Carrera! She may have been around the block but she knows a few tricks!

Actually, it's a pretty good bike. The ally frame is plenty stiff, OK the steel forks weigh a tonne and nearly mashed my wrists but a £100 change to those Planet-X ones really sorted it out. In terms of positioning, the frame is really compact and not too laid back, and just look at that tiny head-tube. Aero-ahoy! Shame I was badly advised and got one a teensy bit too small. Best time on this old slapper was 1:10:40 for 40km. What a ride!

*EDIT* Sorry, forgot the pricing. Bike originally cost £300 with £50 of free accessories (got SPD pedals and some minor crap with it). P-X forks £100 as stated... Profile Jammers were fitted but have since been removed, had T2+ S-bend bars stuffed into them and are now gracing the front of the Dolan in earlier pics.

I am strangely aroused by those euro-racer stylee white-rimmed wheels.

    *EDIT* Pricing details, please!

Trek 1.2 (£470). Its got a bit of carbon on the forks, so is more of an underwear model (with just that hint of naked carbon), and its red and black so not so clean and prim! one day i'll get a carbon steed....

Here's my beauty. I love her, she lives indoors and only gets to go outside if it's not raining. When she gets home she's get a clean and lubed up.

And of course she's red. £1000 of pure pleasure. No upgrades yet, will see how she fares in my first season... As with Clarkey I will edit pic once I can work out how to get the pic off my phone!

    Now that's very nice!!

I'm trying to decide on a bike myself and at the moment I'm between the standard Planet X team build or sorting out an Argon 18 custom jobbie. Definitely leaning towards the Argon just for a bit of individuality. May go for the E114 though what with the bars and brakes already on it's probably only another couple of hundred quid....he says...
  • husslerhussler Posts: 237
Nobz - the E114 is only another £1000 more yes that is £1k more..... and you get the integrated stem similar to the BMC TT01/Felt DA set up, the bars are included as are the calipers..... but the frame is out of the same mould so theres no difference there.....

So for the extra £1000 I would possibly say you would get a minimal gain in performance. Infact possibly one of the worst cost to performance ratios going...... but then you do gain a substantial advantage on the old 'BLING-O-METER'

There is a waiting list for the Argon framesets now, but couldnt tell you how long. The shop I bought mine from are still waiting for the 2nd one they ordered at the same time as mine!

Conspiracy Theory - Yeh I know! I have since chopped the seat post down - its a cut and shut job on the seat post to fit rider height unfortunately so if anyone does get one check and re check you have the right height marked before cutting!!!

I am now a couple of inches lower on the saddle. I have also lowered the bars since too and now have no spacers on there, my back is pretty flat and I am running on average 15-20s per mile quicker off it:)

I did my 1st 25mile TT last weekend on it in very windy conditions and posted an ok-ish time of 63:06. Head wind for half the course is not good!! lol

I just need to get my name printed on the top tube now to complete the proper 'porn' look:)

Oh dear.... the Cube picture has broken my Bling-o-Meter and caused me to dribble....

    Cube carbon frame - Ker-BLING!

    Easton Aero forks - Ker-BLING!

    Xentis Mk 1 TT wheels - Ker-BLING! Ker-BLING!

FSA cranks and chainwheels - carbon I assume? - Ker-BLING!

    SRAM Red everthing else? - Ker-BLING! Ker-BLING! Ker-BLING!

    Ker-BLING-BLING-BLING-BLING-BLING! <broken>

Dammit. I like the comment on the picture... 'Image for illustration purposes only', i.e 'This is illustrating something you will never actually get your backside on'.

...and where the hell is treefrog? Probably still uploading all his pictures, I'm guessing.

*EDIT* Oh, and nice porn in some of the other pics, too. That Specialized is quite cute, and I'm astonished at how purposeful the £399 BeOne looks. Nice to see Clarkey30 making a completely subjective decision based entirely on colour.. [8D] . I am disturbed by ironman.nz.07's clear penchant for retro '70s porn - his brown velvet bedsheet with his ride on it... bow-chikka-wow-wow etc

    No action shots yet?

Was going to go the carbon route but at the time it seemed that every frame I looked at was from the same mould and besides I wanted something different.

    Conehead & Bopomofo

I didn't pose it on it on purpose but I am glad you approved and here's another angle for you guys too.

Ironman.NZ.07-like the classic shot from the front. I can feel the bike looking out of the camera staring at me.

Makes me feel funny inside-like climbing a rope in gym class.
  • Better not tell you then jon_g that both my other bikes (winter and best road) are Van Nicholas Ti's too.

Maybe I will get a shot of all three.

    A bike porn threesome !

Caution, in the opinion of the author, the below post contains extreme graphic content - do not view if pregnant, have a heart condition, or in your first year of triathlon..!

My bikes both live in the garage, but they are kept apart - the TT lives up in the air and my road bike lives against the opposite wall, so they can still see each other. I don't mind them being friends, but they're both Dolans and the offspring might be genetically compromised...
