I did the tri today but with rather long transitions:

7.25am 25 mins swim, didn't count lengths as was practicing glide and hip/shoulder rotation

8.09 run 4.5 miles into work. Legs not up for it at all after the 10k (only done the longer distances 3 times now) but decided to trudge on and do it as zone training HR 144 av

5.05 sprint cycle home 10 miles 34 mins (see rubbish cycling post = woo hoo!)

Can anyone else improve on my T1 and T2 times?????

Going to do a proper brick session Tuesday or Wednesday

Right - so today I swam. It's been 12 days since my laparoscopy, reckoned it'd be OK.

I started out tentatively in the medium lane, breast-stroking. Felt fine so moved quickly into FC, did 4 lengths and was tickling the toes of those in front of me, so moved into the fast lane (there were quite a few slowies today - so I wasn't being super speedy).

In the end I did 50 lengths (25m pool), pausing for a few seconds every tenth length. I was very pleased! Felt fine, really - just a bit sore. Tired now so will do nothing for the rest of the day - but a really encouraging start. Might try a gentle 30mins on the turbo tomorrow....

@Cheryl: By the time you've tested it all out, you'll have found that you've done far more than you expected! You won't be able to resist taking her(?) out to see how much time she will knock off your 10 mile route. Especially if the weather is nice. It's nice up here in Yorkshire. Not sure about the south West judging from the forecast.

Just managed a 30 mins swim this week.

A bit of gentle walking and some exercises from "Managing your own knee pain" or whatever it's called

Still can't drive - well not far! so been using public transport.

Have been referred to a specialist.

Weight starting to come back under control - I think a lot of the weight gain might have been due to a side effect of the anti-inflammatory tablets - i.e. water retention.

If I'm not fit enough to play tennis this weekend, this missus will show great displeasure.

Down in London all next week - won't have anywhere to swim!

My one to one lessons are supposed to start on Monday - but I will be away in London. Grrr..

Due to a rather painful knee after completing the National dualathlon about 3 weeks ago, my training has been somewhat sporadic...however managed to get to one of the outdoor open water training places yesterday and braved the cold water to do a quick 750m swim. Today went out on my bike (after 3 weeks) for a slow 20km just to see how my knee survived...the sunshine helped but frustrated as want to run a 5k too but would be daft as knee now sore (again) and have less that 3 weeks to my first tri...very annoying! But won't be beaten!! [:@]

Not done much training in the week, only managed a 2km pool swim on Monday, as it's been very hectic at work (excuses, excuses!). But I took part in the Midland Masters Swimming champs this weekend. Did 400 free on Friday night (a very slow 6:54:98, 8 secs outside my PB), then 50 free, 200 free and a 50 free relay leg on Saturday, so with the warm ups, I've done quite a bit of swimming, at least!!

Trying to get back in the groove, I went for a nice 3.5 miles run this morning, but had to mix in a bit of walking when my calves cramped up again - I'm off to Bourne Sports tomorrow anyway, to get my gait analysed and some new trainers, which hopefully will help...

    YES YES YES YES YEEEEEESSSSSSS

2x400m all front crawl tonight and felt great - form went a bit by the end due to excitement of at last can do the crawl[:D][:D][:D] other half did a sneaky timing on me as I just wanted to see if could do the 20 without drowning or feeling like death warmed up at the end 10 minutes 48 secs not bad and felt great - can't believe that a month ago couldn't

imagine that may go to pot due to nerves on Sunday on the other hand was swum over, under and had my feet tugged tonight, other half allegedly giving me open water training, and it surely can't be that bad in the pool.

Saturday - 3k race on the track. 7 1/2 laps round the track is tough mentally!

Sunday - working [:(] but at the marathon so watching athletes counts as a sort of training no?

Monday - cycled to pool and back (10 miles). about 2-2.5k swim session. Borrowed a turbo trainer and did an hour in the eve - the most boring hour ever!

    Rest of the week:

    Tuesday - run interval session

Weds - swim session in morning, bike in evening depending on weather.

Thursday - Swim in morning (maybe open water but will have to check temp of lake).

Fri - Bike, maybe about 20 miles.

That all looks good when written down, just have to stick to it! Hard when the weather has gone downhill!

Spent a long weekend at my brothers in Ramsgate but managed to fit in:

10k run with some good hilly bits

45k cycle. My first time back on a road bike properly in about a decade. Loved it!!!!

5k run as the legs were a little heavy after the cycle.

Must, must, must get some sort of schedule sorted. Everything feels really bitty at the moment.

On Sunday I did my first serious bike ride. I did 36 miles in just about 2 hours. I was really pleased with this as my previous longest distance was 22 miles on a mountain bike, and the average speed is well within my target for the bike section, plus I didn't feel ragged after it.

That definitely put me on a high on Sunday. It makes me want to get out again and do the full 53 miles.

Anyway, I'll be in Preston this weekend - anyone know any good bike rides - either off or on road?

the only exercise i managed to do this weekend was one that involved my drinking arm [;)] t'was my birthday so all thoughts of exercise went out the window!

did cycle to the pool yesterday and did 1k swim..reasonable time for me but think the affect of the weekend paid it's toll...

today tho....i did 10k in 49.15 mins! for me this is a pb (normally around 53 mins)...for most of you guys...this is really slow...am very chuffed and am hopin i have this much energy for the tri on monday....[:)]

will try and improve on speed going forward...

Also, you have the 'fish was this big' factor and theres every chance boys will...er...bend the truth a little. I have found this!

It was my birthday on the weekend too....happy birthday to you too!!!

Fancy doing Dorset with us girls on the 10th of May? [:)]

well this week has been a strange one:

    Monday: rest

Tuesday: 17 mile bike commute, swim about 800m 45 mins,

    Wednesday: 2.5mile tempo run

    Thursday: swim 30 mins

    Friday: rest day

Saturday: 5miles nice and easy hr<150 the whole way took 42mins and a few seconds.

Sunday: The worst swim ever 30/45mins, 10 mile bike ride quiet easy with a few small sprints, run 5 miles (hilly course) felt like hell, like my legs were burning and i was going to die, 44mins

    Monday: rest day (thank christ)

Tuesday: 1 hour core work, 15 mins on the spinning bike low resistence high cadence, just to keep the legs turning.

Last night I did one hour of core.

Tryed out the new pilates core muscle thing Jesster was on about. Its good but hard to work out the angle of your back to stop you injuring anything.

Also did the superheor swiss baall move which I now love (thanks jack Hughes)

Did 40 jacknifes moving from side to side as well as straight ones.

Got the weights out and worked the triceps and biceps for a while (boring as hell)

This morning it even hurts to laugh! No pain no gain hey! rest tonight.

Yesterday I did a triathlon training class in the morning which involved squat jumps, alternate leg squat jumps, ski sits and lunges. We did around a minute on each one (the time was determined by how long the person doing the ski sit could hold it for!) then got on the spinning bikes and did sprints or hills for 3 minutes, then ran outside round the sports field, then back in to repeat the lot for 45 minutes. I then cycled 10 miles into work, albeit pretty slowly as I was wrestling with the new phenomena of bar end gears. I then did a four mile run across heathland in the evening.

When I got up this morning I could hardly move as a result of the squats etc. Got as far as the pool and managed a mile easy swim front crawl, then got out and went out on my bike again, not really for training but more for bonding.

At work now and muscles are starting the decline into agony again....

Knee slowly getting better - more stretches than miles clocked up so far...but this week have managed:

Sunday - Leisurely 20km bike ride to see how knee felt - was OK but couldn't really push it as quite sore - hills good though...

Monday - 3.5k slow run on threadmill - knee bearing up but a bit tweaky...

Tuesday - 1500m swim and sit in the sauna..ah lovely

Wednesday - I shall try a brick session tonight - had to abandon the last one as knee complained on second bike stint...so hopefully will be able to do 3 10min stints on each then some weights...

Well, it's two weeks since my op and I ran for about 30mins today. But it was painful and I think I need to give it a bit more time....

Going out on the bike tomorrow - might be a bit less jarring.

@ Blurredgirl - Its fab to see you are training again. How are you planning to get back up to speed with the training? I think you know it already but be careful!!!

As for my training - I am quite proud to say that I had a PB last night in the pool. 400 Metres in 8.02 Thats 30 seconds off of my last PB. It felt great and I was felling like I could have done the bike leg as well.

back in the pool just to check that after failing at crawl at first tri that not forgotten how - I haven't so went for learning to breath on my other side and then every 3 strokes and just for fun a length with eyes closed to see whether one arm is stonger than other and to get ready for not being able to see anything in OW- AND yes I went from middle of pool to crashing into the right hand wall 3/4 of the way down - caused much hilarity from lifeguards[:D]

Swim this morning-shown up by children

Cycled to work up big puffy hill-car in garage with water pump issue.

Cycled back fom work down said hill with shiny new bike shoes/pedals-fell in hedge at bottom.

For me, it has not been the best of days.
