Open water problems

I had my first open water swim this season on Sunday morning with a new aqua-sphere mask that I've been using in the pool without it leaking, however, on Sunday I was relentlessly having to empty my mask as it kept filling with water - does anyone else have this problem with goggles/masks in colder open water.
