School boy error...

just when i thought i was shaking off the total novice label..... big school boy error this evening ...out on bike for a 20km ride..helmet and glasses in place...have defended these glasses to non-tri folks saying how good they were stopping wind/flies etc......even if they think i look daft...anyway 12k in and they start to steam up...decided to stick them in my pocket instead of giving them a wipe...literally 2 mins later caught a ninja horse fly straight in the eye...and i don't mean a glancing blow...full on splatter inside eye lid...brought me to a halt on side of road...then realised for some strange reason I had decided blackcurrant squash was a good idea in the bottle tonight (never done it before)...so had nothing to wash the pesky devil out with...queue 5 mins poking about making the situation worse....then started laughing how stupid i must have looked ....probably not the best time to ask the two ladies that were walking past to help me by looking into my eye.........

Wouldn't worry too much- my wife is an eye specialist and people do even more incredibly stupid things than that - 'paint spray can nozzle blocked - looked to see what problem was, pressed button - oops paint spray now works' - power tools are another good one - amazing how 'professional' tradesmen think that they don't need eye protection. My wife commented to one carpenter who was working at her hospital that he really should wera safety glasses 'it's OK I know what I am doing' she could barely stop smirking when he came in to her clinic from an A&E referral later that day.

not wishing to derail the thread. I work in construction and I can assure you that I have seen some amazin things in this game. You can add as much leglislation as you want, all it take is one person who thinks "they know what they are doing" or "I've done this a million times" to go and have an accident.

aoneill69, I would worry to much about it, we've all been there. A wee while back I fell at the side of the road as I pulled over to make a right hand turn and traffic was murder. I couldn't clip out and fell over. A few cars stopped, most were laughing though. If it had been the other way round I would probably have laughed at me as well
