Wheezy chest

Hi everyone

I've recently started open water swimming in training for my first Olympic event. I'm starting to overcome the usual chest tightness problems and am up to 1500m without too much difficulty. BUT each time I swim I develop a wheezy upper chest and respiratory tract and produce large quantities of mucus - not very nice. I'm fine in the pool and don't seem to have a problem in the sea. I don't suffer at all from asthma but am I getting some sort of allergic reaction, possibly to the algae in the lake water? Has anybody out there suffered from a similar problem and have they managed to find any way to alleviate it?

Any feedback would be appreciated.
