Trainer Qualifications

Having done triathlon and marathons for a few years, I am thinking of becoming a trainer myself. What are the recommended qualifications/skill levels needed to train people on triathlon, duathlon, strength and conditioning and marathon? I am interested in the mandatory quals but also what is considered important in the industry?

Thanks,

Julian

    For 1:1 coaching:

    Triathlon: BTF Level 3

    Marathon: UK Athletics Coach

Strength & Conditioning: Level 3 Advanced Fitness/PT from Central YMCA or similar plus strength & conditioning qualification from National Strength & Conditioning Association

Nothing is mandatory as far as I'm aware but in all cases you would be liable for any injuries/damage to an athlete and who would insure someone doing something they are not qualified for. Also if you've not got the qualifications who would put their faith in your coaching.

Expect tri clubs to check out what you've got before using you and most pools & gyms would do the same before allowing you to do 1:1 sessions in their premises.
