comfy saddle

hi all, i am after advice regarding buying a comfy saddle, I am signed up for a half ironman this year and am starting to up my mileage, to be blunt my arse is numb after about an hour in the saddle so I need to get something sorted as otherwise I will be in trouble.

I have read a few reviews on the Specialised Romin that look good but would be open to any advice or experience....

    I had a Fizik Arione Tri saddle, brilliant but after my first Outlaw my arse not overly sore just that I had lost all sensation in ... ahem ... a delicate area. Numb for several days.

    Got a Selle SMP Hybrid http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=32061
    Arse still a bit sore but very little numbness and that didn't last long. On the Vitruvian had no problmes whatsoever.

    If you hook up with a good LBS you might be able to try saddles out, but everyone is different.

    I've got an Adamo Racing saddle fitted to my TT bike. Wasn't sure about it at first, but it does encourage you to sit forward in the saddle and has certainly been more comfortable than other saddles I've had. Might be worth a look!

    These are excellent and these people will let you borrow one for a trial before buying.

    Another one for the Adamo, good for up to 8 1/2 hours so far, haven't tested it for any longer. They are Marmite though, so get a test drive first.

    Agree saddles are not meant to be comfy but supportive. Saddle choice has a lot to do with your riding style. There has recently been a very good three part series on saddle theory by Dan Empfield on the slowtwitch website which is well worth a look at.

    If you are getting numbness I would be concerned in whether or not you are putting pressure in nerve areas as this can lead to areas such as erectile disfunction in males. As a precaution I have switched to a saddle with a anatomic cut out for this reason as I have got older and have gone back to a bigger training regime.
