Tri-bike vs 2nd hand Road Bike
in General Chat
I recently got into Triathlons and although I have had a lot experience with off road bikes, triathlon/road bikes are fairly new to me.
I bought a an Allez Elite a couple of years ago to get me started in Triathlons, and I am now at a point to take the step further. I have been offered a 2nd hand hand built Cannondale which has hardly been used. I believe the frame is a SuperSix. It was originally £4k and I can probably pick it up for £1.5 /2k.
Do I buy this and spec it up for triathlons or would I be better off just to buy a brand new tri-bike, such as a Planet X Exocet?

I have Rival on my bike, seem OK, never need adjusting, snicks through the gears nicely enough
If tri is going to be your main thing, rather than sportives etc, then you are probably ready for a tri bike. Ie something based on. Tri/TT frame. If you are reasonably fast than a TT/tri bike will make a significant difference.
The Allez can become your training bike. Next season you can then get a nice new road bike. And a bigger shed
PX is the new Cervelo. Soon you won't be able to find your bike in T1
