Shipping my bike to an IM

Going to Whistler for IM Canada August 22nd. Has anyone used one of these "ship my bike" outfits ? What's the advantage between that, and simply loading it as outsized baggage, in a hard sided bike box ? Don't know what I'd do if come two days before race-day they'd lost my beloved P3 ! Any experiences of these shipping services much appreciated. Peter
