food and middle distance

With four five days to go to a middle distance event, I was wondering what sort of diet to have on the run up and the actual day. Obvipously carbs and protien but what sort of things. Getting a bit worried I wont have enough energy stored or eaten too muchand be sluggish on the swim. Im vegetarian too m,ake things a bit more interesting.

Anysuggestions much appreciated.

Hi avoid heavy dairy food for the last two days leading up to the event.Avoid high fibre breakfasts on the day for obvious reasons.Try going for 70% carb,20%protein and 10%fat meals. The body can only store around 2500 to 3000 usable Kcal before it trys to locate energy from other areas that should give you around 3hrs of usable energy depending on your pace.A good meal the night before and a healthy breakfast of toast ,cereals/Quakers,bananas, should get the body ready for the event assuming it is an early morning start, suggest eating about 2hrs to 1hr before the event.Best of luck.
