Going Backwards ?

So whilst playing in the gym the other day doing a treadmill / bike session noticed (not hard to miss) a chap in the gym who I know is also into triathlon running on the gym, but backwards at 7km/h so apart from not being able to see MTV what are the other benefits ? (are there any?)

I think I read about this before. Isn't running backwards good for technique??

Well, I'm sure about this: running backwardsis great for the knees, it puts a lot les strain on themthan normal.
