What's the best music to train to?

Let's hear your thoughts.

My personal favourites are:

For Resistance training and intense sessions: System of a Down, Metallica, or Drowning Pool.

For Looonnngg Steady state sessions: The Goo Goo Dolls, Barenaked Ladies, Fifth Amendment, or the Mediaevil Babes

What do you guys think? Whats currently playing on your I-pod, or Personal sterio?

  • Being an Irishman I would have to say that The Pogues do it for me............ Still wondering why I never win anything though [:)]
  • i like occulus or prodigy
  • Cheers for your responses. have to say "Pogues rule!" although I wasn't sure of Shane McGowan and the Popes. somehow not the same. good for turbo sessions as well, changes in tempo are good for fartlek sessions, or maybe that's just me.

Dave - you sould record it and get an album deal.

When it comes to running I listen to eithies and nineties dance! i believe the kids call it OLD SKOOL! To me its what I grew up with!

On the bike on the road you would have to be a fool to listen to music!
  • I don't listen to music. I can't race with it, so why train with it.

Did a 1/2 Marathon yesterday, which was crowded, so had to squeeze through the gaps, but iPod wearers were just a pain, running along in a world to themselves.

I use choooons from www.podrunner.com you can download the 180 bpm ones and they set a good cadence in the background. Thanks to whoever posted the link on here in the first place.

Agree that it's important to train without too in the run up to races, but a hard hour on the turbo is easier with some noise.

I must admit that I couldn't listen to this stuff normally - it sounds like a yoof driving past in a corsa

Dave, are you really that bored that you have to keep dragging up old threads, rather than starting new ones.2005 for this one, awesome effort. At least you haven't started to invent other user names and start talking between yourself.

Pretty much anything on a long ride, preferably loud techno on the turbo although I wouldn't say my housemates really appreciate it!

Biffy Clyro is normally good on a run
  • Anything posted on the podcasts from Motion Traxx!!!!!!

The fitness DJ, has quite a selection of training session music which ranges from 130 bpm to 180 bpm. There are over 50 podcasts to download, and 2 of them are specific to cycling on rollers or turbos for the winter months. Each one is at least 50 minutes long.....

Kind of music you can never really get bored with.....

    I absolutely love it.....

    Rgds,

    Sean
  • This post may have been dredged up from 2005, but very timeous for me. I've just bought a turbo trainer (hopefully being delivered today) and was going to put my own "training mix" together. Now thanks to the links from Shaggy & Sean_Murphy I don't have to. Cheers guys

Now to put a looong list of Spinervals DVD's on my Christmas list....

I only listen to music when I'm on the turbo, it definately helps pass the time and I reckon it does help drive me on. As for what, I'm partial to a bit of Kylie Minogue

You may have seen this on the BBC website:
BBC - Can Music Aid Athletic Performance?

Music has helped elite tri-athletes in Australia increase their endurance by 15%, researchers say.

Synchronous music, where stride length is matched to musical tempo, can have metronomic effects on the body by allowing athletes to run for longer, they say.

It's all about the 80's montage music. Try these bad boys for starters and see how your pace increases:
