Where did your name come from then?

Theres a lot of weird and wonderful usernames on the forum - where did yours come from?

Mine is a cross between Samurai (because of their dedication and commitment!) and Triathlon, hence Samutri. My real name is Richard, far less interesting

Just to put the record straight my nickname came from a friend who saw me in my Orca wetsuit and he was reminded of the film Free Willy - (family movie not adult movie!), it was not for any other reason that may have been suggested in an other thread! I have subsequently lost a fair amount of weight (and changed wet suit brands - blue seventy) but the name remains with me, and I am still occasionally chased by Japanese whaling ships!

  • Mine comes from the fact that I used to smoke up to 40 marlboro a day and every now and then after a particularly hard session, I still feel the effects. What an idiot I was!!!

Boring story alert.... Some years ago I was a freelance software engineer with a specialisation in converting mobile phone platforms to work in Chinese and other complex languages. One of the ways to do this arranges the initial chinese characters Bo, Po, Mo and Fo onto the first key. It's referred to as Bopomofo text entry.

As you can see, I became a bit of a bore on the subject, and to my coworkers the name 'Bopomofo' became an obvious tag. Besides, it was an in joke, and also sounds a bit, umm, rude and aggressive - which probably suits me too. [:D]

I use the same name pretty much everywhere on-line.

I don't know where mine comes from!? Everybody keeps calling me that.

Now, to make the coincidence even bigger, the name on my pasport also says 'benny'. it must be fate I guess. [8|]

Jon.E,the name pays homage to my startling resemblance to James Caans' character Jonathon E at the end of the film Rollerball,(generally covered in blood at the end of the day but still standing).

  • 3 Little Fonzys

is from the film 'pulp fiction'. The scene at the end where the couple are holding up the diner and they are beginning to lose their never. Samuel L Jackson who is being asked for his wallet and is trying to calm them down...says to the women...'what is fonzy'....she says 'cool' ....right,right...we are going to be like 3 little fonzys...

    or something along those lines!

    Made me laugh....

Jonhinio came from my time at Uni.. Should actually be Jonhinho, but a mistype when I was young never got changed. We all decided to shout stupid foreign names out while playing footie. Junhinho was playing for Middlesbrough at the time so "Jonhinio's ball" became the shout.

... yep we made our own entertainment in them there dark days!
  • TesseractTesseract Posts: 280
A tesseract is a 4 dimensional cube. I chose it as my online name because when I first started going on forums I was following a game called Perplex City, which centered around a search for a mysterious cube.

I'm not sure but I suspect that makes me like a geek squared...
  • It's at moments like this that I wish I'd picked a username like "Shark" or "Lightning" so that I could make up a good story about me being the fastest swimmer/runner/cyclist out there.

Instead, I picked Tiring Tri ing, mainly because it was late at night and I was really struggling to think of something interesting or amusing. I failed on those counts, so just picked a name that mixed up Triathlon, Tiring and Trying, which sort of summed up the key components. Alternatively, it may just be because any of my friends who have the misfortune to hear me bleat on about Triathlon find me both tiring and very, very trying.

Ok, having read all of those I am going to change my name to something interesting!

Simply its Tommi cos my name is Tom and favourite band was/is black sabbath, Hence Tommi as in Tommi Iommi, was called this as a kid.

Not sure where the Tri bit comes from.

I got a t-shirt given to me by a mate with the name on it quite a few years ago.

TBH it's fit for the bin but having only started training at the age of 38 (2 yrs back) having been a total paar-tay boy for most of my adult life, I keep it to keep me off the sofa and out of the pie-box.

The phrase 'be as you are' is written on the back - still trying to figure out if I am a total slacker or not.

2 marathons, an oly and a HIM last year and 3 HIM's and marathon this year seem to suggest otherwise.

but the name will stick until I've done my IM.

I don't know if anyone remembers a TV series( from Japan ) called MONKEY. The characters where Monkey(a monkey god) Trippitaka (a priest) Sandy (a sea god?) and PIGSY...He was always up to nonsense and always eating. They were on a journey to find holy scriptures and find enlightenment, saving people from Demons along the way. 65 is the year I was born.

Yes I am no spring chicken he he.

Off to fight some Demons now!!! ha ha.
  • Mine has nothing to do with 'brick' training, it's just that I swim like one!!
  • LuckyLucky Posts: 137
After being cut out of a car over 10 years which I managed to "park" under a lorry which pulled out on me, got away very lightly - hence "Lucky"

My name is Ash and I'll leave you to guess what facial hair I have. I did try to add a photo but it didn't seem to work.

I have had the Tash for most of the last 25 years. It might have been a bit shorter when I was in the services and it did get shaved off about 15 years ago for charity and again about 5 years ago 'cos herself wanted to see me without it (back again in 2 weeks but you could see the shape after 2 days).
  • BoycieBoycie Posts: 189
Mine comes from the geographically challenged guys i worked with in the army. I come from Watford, which in their eyes meant I must be a cockney, if I'm a cockney then I must be a second hand car dealer; hence Boycie. Many of them went for years without knowing my real name.
  • Think mine is pretty self explainitory. Guess i may have to change it if I get on at my first race.

My name was given to me by my family. I'm a great planner, but not so good at carrying things through. It was said once that if I was a superhero then I would come up with the more fantastic, practical and effective plan, but that I would never get round to rescuing the world. So from then on, everytime I said that I was going to do something it became known as a SuperCaz plan.

I chose it for my forum name because it would remind me that I really was going to prove them all wrong this time, by sticking to the exercise and reaching my goals. I also find it a great motivator when I have had a few bad training sessions because it reminds me that I really am Super, because of all that I have achieved so far.

But I still can't stick to a plan. Training plans usually last about 2 weeks before I ditch them. However, doing whater training I fancy at the time is a strategy that works well for me, and four years later I am still here!
