Building up to ironman advice

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me with some advice as I'm unsure what to do. I did Vitruvian at the weekend and was quite pleased with my time (4hr 50min) as this is my first season in the sport. I am thinking of doing Ironman UK next year, would I be better off concentrating on Olympic distance to get more speed then build endurance when proper training starts in Jan/Feb or just stick to the longer endurance stuff?

Thanks,

Richard :)

I would say go for an endurance based programme. It will stand you in good stead whether you go down the IM route or the OD route. Either way you're a winner!
  • One piece of advice I would give- look at this first: http://www.trifuel.com/triathlon/ironman-workouts/

This is the training schedule I did for IM over 8 months. I cannot understate how much of your life it takes over and its possible to get really sucked in. IM is a fantastic event and achievement but how much you have to give for it shouldnt be underestimated, especially as a first timer.
