helmets

What helmets do you all wear?

May sound like abit of a daft question but, I have just bought one off wiggle and it has arrived and I do not like it, im returning it. I want one that sits low on your head (doesnt stick up and make your head look huge) and is comfy... any ideas?

    Ermmmm...

I wear a MET Ippogriffo. I chose it because it has plenty of ventilation and was at the right price point. Aside from that, I don't really expect a helmet to make me look good, only to protect my bonce should the worst happen, and let enough air through that my brain doesn't get broiled in my own sweat.

Triathlon race and time trial with a Giro advantage - excellent helmet but did take practise to perfect in transitions.

General cycling I ue a Rudy Project, but I don't like it, as its very uncomfortable and have to strategically fold a Buff to make it bearable. A very good friend bought me it as a gift therefore I'm honour bound to wear it until its appropriate to rplace it with a Giro

    Catlike for general riding.

Limar Chrono for tri and tt. Very comfy - chose it as it has a shorter tail so if you move your head around it doesn't disrupt air flow as much according to cycle plus anyway.

At my speed i doubt i'll see the difference.

I have a Giro Pneumo and it's just great - really comfy. If looks are important I would suggest that you go and try a few out if you can. I really couldn't be happier with my Pneumo. :-)

Hell looks are important! I had a MET Stradivarius (old style) which I loved but did look like I was wearing my brain outside my head, I had another MET..5th Element(?), which was huge, but both very comfortable & well vented.

I now ride a Bell Sweep & it is the only helmet I have ever replaced with the same model....but about a week after I had to buy a new one (dropped it), the Volt came out, which I haven't tried yet.(Its black & red with croched porridge straps & carbon buckles since you did not ask)

Giro never fitted my head until the pneumo, they always felt to short front to back & wide side to side.

It's not the brand or type of helmet you wear, it's how you wear it!!!

  • I went to Specialised and bought a cheap one as i seem to get through them rather quickly. My old helmet stank after 12months so the new one has lots of ventilation!!!

Steer clear of any brand with one size or no medium size verison..

    MET is good for me.

GO buy one in a shop so you can try it on, tinterweb may be cheaper but not, if like me you end up buying three untill you get one you are happy with - go figure.

Whoever throw their helmoet away because it smells - why dont you wash it?!

Absolutely - just take the pads out and wash them!

finally bought a new one. I tried on a few Giros but in the end I found a Rudy Project one that fitted well. so job done.
