No swimming allowed; alternative??

bennybenny Posts: 1,314
I got some serious burn wounds at my hands this week, some dead skin had to be removed by doctor 2 days ago and today. No problem for running and biking(turbo).

But no swimming allowed (infection danger of open wounds and hand has to stay wrapped with all kinds of stuff[image]http://forum.220magazine.com/micons/m7.gif[/image]).

What would be a great solution:

-change the swim for weight training

-change the swim for more bike and/or run

-skip the swim, replace with nothing

-other alternative??

Thanks in advance guys(and girlies).

you got a gym with a rower? I use it as an alternative when I can swim as i find it uses my upper body a bit more.

I don't know how many swim sessions you do, but if you do say 3 a week I would do a weights routine, and two sessions on the rower, or combine the two in each of the sessions.

Couldn't you double (or more) glove your hands with surgical gloves & tape them at the wrist..or is it really sad that I thought of that.

Thought about it britspin, but don't want to risk any complications like infection. I suppose that would be the real start of trouble!

You are right..short term loss (no swim) for long term gain (still having hands).

is the concern for your hands because of the water, or just the pressure on the palms?

If te former, i've seen videos (e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2d7IvIq20I&feature=related has a shot of this somewhere in it) of people swim training on what looks a bit like a rower... tey lie on their stomachs on the "seat" and use ropes/belts to pull themselves forwards - maybe the slider is on an incline to allow them to return?

    or something like this?

    Thanks Didds.

Went to the doctor, got the bandage off. Lot of old black-brownish loose skin, with new skin under it already. Once its fully grown closed (no open wounds left), swimming is allowed again. At the speed it is healing now it looks like swimming can be started again next week!(he was impressed by my ability to grow new skin, is there a contest in that somewhere??[8D]).

Will be blessed with an impressive scar though, but besides that, nothing permanent.

    Thanks for the tips guys!!!
