Ear plugs allowed in swim???

Ear plugs are fine.

  • Hello world

I had a brief look through some tri rules yesterday, they clearly state nothing that impairs hearing is permitted at any time during the race.

Does that mean ear plugs (for the swimming) are not allowed?

I used to wear ear plugs myself and have never been told i couldn't. However, having learnt to Scuba dive in the last 18 months I now find I can get on without them and thinking back I wonder how safe it was. I'm sure the gel/putty type ones are okay but if you took an accidental elbow direct on one of the solid plug type it might do some damage.

I'm sure you will be fine if you plan to hang at the back at the start on your first couple of tri's (normally a good idea until you get used to the rough and tumble) but try to get out of the habit of them as soon as you can.

Best of luck with the first tri - I know you already realise how addictive this sport is...
