Ok so we all dream of one day competing at Kona, but wheres the best place to do your first one and why?

Good point from Conehead but I would suggest Switzerland, Austria or Germany. The fact that you have travelled to an "exotic" place lends motivation and inspiration, they are easy to get to, these are plenty of anglophones there and the act that its mainland Europe means that there won't be too many cultural surprises

sign up for lanzarote for your first. its hot, windy, hilly and claims to be the hardest in the world. I'll let you know quite what a bad idea this is after may23 of this year....

nice is great.

i remember stopping in the col du pons, halfway aroud the bike leg for big long cola based puke. a friend of mine a few miles ahead swears that he dropped a power bar and it started to melt. 94d heat and over 5000 ft of climbing.
