Hey everyone.
I had my first race this season - a Aquathon at Dawlish run by the Exeter Triathlon club.
I was nervous about the swim because it was the first time I would swim 600m in one go. out of the pool - walked the whole way around (didn't want to slip!). Ran round the golf course and hit the road chasing people down and as I jumped on the kerb my right foot only went half on and went over on it!
I was in sear agony for about 10 minutes, some time later in A&E I fractured my foot in two places where the ligaments join my foot.
I can't express how completely gutted I am about it. I was so looking forward to the season. And now at least 4 weeks out and myfitness will drop so low. My main target was to do a sprint in a sub hour....
So everyone take care when you're out there!

Dont try to rush back though take your time and heal properly then come back bigger badder and better than ever before.........

A big advantage of Tri is that there are lots of other useful exercises that you can do than means you are doing something constructive, while resting the injury. Of course, with a leg injury, that really means swim/gym (weights/core).
Hang on in!
(I've not been able to run since 1st Feb. now. Which is so frustrating. But by swimming is improving!)
Just keep pro-active and do what exercise you can and your fitness level shouldn't drop too much.
Hope you're getting plenty of sympathy and pampering.

Have they said you can do non load bearing stuff? light cycling in the gym to stop too much muscle wastage?
Man thats a total bummer!
Keep your chin up and well the foot as well.
Its a long season of events so keep off it till its fixed.
Clarkey - Jeez you've got some bad luck there, I'm seeing a specialist tomorrow and hopefully will find out exactly what I can and can't do. I'm hoping for an Aircast so I can take it off for a swim!
I called the gym and they are happy to let me for me to do upper body and core work.......
On ward and up wards I suppose.
again thanks for the kind words

i was just about to suggest an aircast, and a pully for a possible swim, keep us posted and best of luck
Didn't help myself in that I didn't let it heal properly so as hard as it might be, please heed the above advice (that I never do [:D]) and make sure it is completely healed, and when you do come back, increase your mileage slowly. Try and stick to the 10% weekly increase rule.
i'm really struggling to keep off it. I can walk painlessly in my Aircast - but hurts without it.
I've tried swimming with a pull buoy and that was ok. next week I'm going to do the turbo trainer. This is only because the up/down movement is completely painless. but I won't try cycling incase I have some freaky accident!
Cast is due off on at the end of March so I'm planning my training programme for then.
Infact i'm thinking about getting a pro coach - so I can do this weird thing called 'training smart!' see how it goes anyway.
