Protein after training ??!??

Hi All

Please excuse me if this question has been asked before or is silly.

I come from more of a weight training background i am used to taking protein after each workout.

I have now given up on the weights and i am training fairly hard (10-12 hrs a week ) but i am unsure if i should take protein after a longer ride /swim /run.

I know i need to loose bulk to gain speed but i do not want to change my shape overly towards a more long distance runners shape.

Also did anyone go for a ride in that wind yesterday?

That head wind was hell !

Many thanks

Steve

Yes you need protein after any exercise I think, due to the damage to the muscles caused by the training. You don't need quite as much as you did for your weightlifting, but still I would say in the region of 10-20g.

There is supposedly a 4:1 carbs:ratio that is optimal for recovery, So I normally have 15g protein and 60g carbs after a workout, this normally equates to a pint of milk and a banana!

I am taking much more than that at the moment so i will cut it back.
