I'm sure this team is well known to many of you 'dyed in the wool' triathletes but I have only just seen it and along with millions of others I'm sure, was moved to tears and deeply humbled. What an inspiration they are to all of us who sometimes think training is just too hard and feel ready to give up when it starts to hurt and our comfort level is severely impaired.
Dick Hoyt epitomises the true meaning of ironman. We all know that ironman is a test of extreme endurance, strength and most of all mental tenacity, but I guess sometimes we forget exactly what those words mean until we watch you incredible people taking on the ultimate test, however that test manifests itself to you. Watching this video brings it all to life most particularly the dedication and single mindedness that gets you through something that us mere mortals can only dream about.
Team Hoyt, Cripplekid and ironmen everywhere I salute you

I have read about them with great interest.
I am going to take my little boy ( he's 14 months now) to a race one day and compete and finish.
I doubt If I'll ever do an Ironman for various reasons ( the bigest being I don't think I'm that able) but I am going to do a 70.3 with him.
You'd be amazed at how many places refuse to allow me to take him with me. I need to get hold of an specialist canoe, a specialist bike and a light chair with all the necesary restraints etc etc but I can't wait.
Going back to the Hoyts. I can only imagine the effort and strength, both mental and physical needed to finish and ironman - then look at what Team Hoyt do. Staggering.
Quite unbeliveable
You have a massive circle of friends here and I bet theres not one of us that wouldn't do everything we possibly can to help you acheive what you need to do. Together we can move mountains.......
I would be _so proud_ to be part of any event that had you two in it. Go for it!
To cripplekid has your son got a disability?Im guessing so
Cripplekid..you've got my support...
Conehead...you're just a diamond...
He was 3 months prem - in hsp for just over 3 months, then found out he had CP.
Came home various problems and infections and he stopped breathing in his cot. Anyway, after a little panic he ended up back in a London Hosp - and the news was bad The neuroligists told us he wouldn't survive and my wife and I made the decision that no parent should ever have to make to turn off his ventilator the next day.
That day came and I felt physicaly sick at the thought of what was to come. Undescribable.
One final MRI and CT of his brain and it showed potential for cognative ability so ethicaly we weren't allowed to let him go.
He is an absolute gem and we love him. I can relate to the Hoyt's cos we were told to put him up for addoption when we had a definative and final diagnosis.
There was no way on this f**king earth we would ever do that, never and we have never thought that we should have done it.
He is as much a part of our family as his big sister and we couldn't survive without him.
Me - I'm an normal bloke. MAried with 2 kids. My Mother in law challenged me to a sprint Tri last year and I was hooked. Did a couple and realy enjoy them.
Signed up for some more sprints this year and I am going to the natonal emergency Services Triathlon in Nottingham in May with a work team ( All Paramedics - that's what my wife and I do).
This forum is a great place to learn from and Conehead - I may well ask for some advice If I may. I am not super fit by any means but I won't stop until I've finished the race. I am very humbled by your offer and I thank you deeply. ( I may well send you an e mail soon for a little help and advice)
Hopefuly I'l get my son out and in a race and I'd love it if any of you came and said hi.
I'll be the one at the back!!!
I have no shame in admitting I am welling up but there is no greater thing in the world that the way Mr Hoyt loves his son. I can just feel the exact same thing in me.
I am very grateful
Cripplekid. No you won't be at the back because we will all be behind you cheering you on. The both of you can do it, let noone tell you otherwise...
Conehead. Beautiful mate, simply beautiful.

Works for me in IE, but not in Firefox.
