Sea swimming in a wetsuit

I'm off on my hols soon and I'm planning to swim in the sea to train. Does anyone know if swimming in the sea will hurt my wetsuit in any way if I wear it? I'd like to have a swim then practice T1, but as it's brand new I don't want to mess it up. I suppose a good rinse in fresh water afterwards should wash out any salt water?

Make sure you rinse it with fresh water afterwards, it's very different to swimming normal open water and will take a little getting used to but you will have fun

Living on the coast, I do almost all my wetsuit swimming in the sea. I just shower off my suit afterwards and hang it up to dry. Seems to be doing OK. Although I seem to be queen of putting my (very short) fingernails through it!

Sea swimming is worth practising if you re doing any sea-based tris - it's quite different.

  • Thanks everyone. Based on your comments I'll give it a go. My event is in a lake but I think a sea swim will be good experience anyway.
