Ribble - dribble - wibble... too good to be true

I was having a trawl through the Ribble website, as I'm now trying to decide between a carbon Planet X SL Pro frame and forks (£399) or Ribble's branded Nero Corsa 12K Carbon frame (£378 + forks).

It's a hard choice and I would be interested in your opinions.

Anyway, I stumbled on this...

Ribble TT Frame. £97!!!

Okay, it'll be aluminium but still £97!

Can't find any details on it though. Anyone heard of it?

If it was any good, how cheaply could you knock up a whole bike?

I've got a Campag Veloce groupset plus various wheels and bits, so I'm good to go.

I saw a Cube Aerium review recently that came out tops, I'm not ready for a dedicated TT position but I think a TT frame with drops and aerobars could be just the ticket!

It must be worth buying and holding onto till next spring and selling on for a profit!

By the way any idea on cost of setting up with resonable running gear?

so is anyone getting one of these? I am sorely tempted but my lack of knowledge ability and space to build it would be the limiting factor. I take it the frame is alu or something similar at that price?

Surely, it's too cheap for Tri? And it isn't black (or red)
  • I might get one, not for tri, but use it to build up a half decent commuting bike for London (would make a decent fixed gear bike). Looks like a bargain.

    Dont buy that.

If it aint carbon its not worth it.

It cant be much cop if they are selling it for 97 quid.

    But i could be wrong.

i just did a quick tot up, mostly with mid range campag stuff and got to a total of about 800 quid looking towards a tri bike more than road. would be a fun ongoing project

If it looks too good to be true then it probably is. It might be a pricing error on their web-site, or it might just be a £97 quid frame. (i.e. not good)

Just because it says TT/Tri Frame or whatever doesn't mean it is any good.

    Ok.

BUT back to the reason I was on the Ribble site in the first place...

As I will soon have £400 burning a hole in my pocket, what frame?

    1) Planet X SL Pro carbon frame and forks. £399

    2) Ribble's branded Nero Corsa 12K Carbon frame - extra 15% off this Monday, making the frame £311!

    What do you reckon?

I've got no strong feelings over either one, except the Planet X is pretty.

    VOTE!

Dunno if it helps your decision process but the geometries are here:

P-x looks a little steeper. The rest is down to you and your body shape.
