camping at triathlons

its common I have noticed for people that travel some distances to triathlons to camp the night before. The benefits being of coursethat typically they are close to the venue = more time in bed, and it keeps the costs down.
However, one thing has my wondering... does the night before the race end up being like a festival with everyone partying on down (= if you want to kip early its a non starter) or is everyone so focused that its quiet after (say) 9 or 10 pm as everyone has turned in in order to get a decent night's sleep ?
