    Wakefield tri in july is:

    1500m swim - 40k bike - 10k run

is this still classed as a sprint tri? even tho its nearly a mile swim?

Sprint distance? Christ I hope not otherwise I'm going to get a shock when I rock up for my first sprints!

    That'll be an olympic/standard distance.

Sprints usually 400 or 750m swim, 20k cycle, 5k run.

    Meakie,

I'm looking to do one in Leeds in August if that's near you? It's 400m, 20k bike, 5k run.

750m swim, 20km bike 5km run is sprint

400m swim, 20km bike, 5km run is supersprint.

And then there's a whole host of other random distances in between.

far be it for me to disagree with the GREAT conehead [:D] (and I do mean that!) but I would say that distances DOWN to olympic are pretty standard, but stuff below that is open somewhat to interpretation.

I'd certainly go with 750/20/5 being a sprint... but there are LOADS of tris that describe a 400/20/5 (typically a pool swim) as a sprint... as well as a few (cue conceptsport :-) that

run sprints of around 400/32/8 ... which aren't far short of an Oly.

Its pretty much what's in a name.

I'll go now before I get abducted to conehead's secret island hideaway for "education" ;-)
