Alright, so i've been hitting the cycling pretty darn hard over the last week , after experiencing a training 'lull' (i.e had friends down and didn't train, only laughed endlessly for days and days) and my lovely lady area is taking a bit of a bashing.

I wear hugely padded nappy-like cycling shorts but find myself pretty...erm....bruised....for days and days after a hard ride. Is it the saddle itself or do i need to adjust my saddle? I often find myself propped forward on it and have to give a little scoot back do get my seatbones in the right place. I was fitted to the bike when i bought it but perhaps i need a little 'tweaking"? No rude comments please boys! lol

You lot have been angels donating me free stuff (nod to Jack Hughes and Bman! I loves ya!) -if anyones got a sheepskin saddle cover with a gel filled underlay, my ladybits will thank you! lol

ok, on a more serious note, you say you often creep forward on the saddle and have to do a little 'scoot' back. I do exactly the same! I have put this down to the general bike setup......i (and possibly you too) have fitted aero bars and mine are quite low - meaning my bars are a lot lower than my saddle, just like a tt bike. But with a tt bike the saddle is slightly further forward ( i think) and this puts the rider back into a more comfortable position when down in aero position.

So, i've turned my seat post around to get my saddle as far forward as possible.

I haven't been out on it yet though!

    Hope you recover soon [8|]

Gary, I dont think you can just turn your seatpost around. The original seatpost, i imagine, will not be designed for that. You can buy specific seatposts to do the job.

Look on the Bike Porn thread and look at Bopomofo's Dolan bike, look at the seatpost.

Jesster, I reckon your seat is too high and you are bouncing on it while riding.

Hmmmmm [8|] maybe i am. how about the scooting then? does everyone scoot? me an gaz do....

I'm a scooter too, but I think my aero bars are a touch too long; if I'm to grip the ends where the shifters are, my elbow joint isn't quite 90 degrees.

Also invest in some ASSOS CHAMOIS CREAM (from wiggle) this stuff is the absolute daddy, apply it genorously on your...ahem.....womens area and some on the "pad" of your cycling shorts and you'll wonder how you ever cycled without it..........

I have a similar problem - although not with my lady bits, and i scoot back quite a bit if i use the aero bars - when i was getting the bike set up the guy in the shop said that i might need to get a shorter stem as i would be over streching to reach in the aero position. I think that may be why i have trouble, that and London roads, it's like riding with square wheels at times.

Jess, I had the same problem with red raw girls parts. I kept getting more padded, more women specific saddles to no avail. I still came back from a ride looking like I'd lost me 'oss! Then I started riding Chris's Dawes bike (following the divorce from Tessa) and was dreading the merciless bashing from his razor seat. But amazingly, its much better! It seems that I had filled myself up with padding (and plenty of chamois cream) and extra padded saddles and I think it was all squashing up together and crushing my girl parts! Take away some of the bulk and things started to happen, blood started to revisit previously strangled and savaged bits and the light was there at the end of the tunnel!

Try losing some bulk between the legs (as it were!) and see if that helps!

You are a lady who is used to having at least 14 hands between your legs AND a saddle, so surely this is surmountable?? (sorry guys, that last was a horse thing!)

Forget the padded seat and try a racing seat - nice a thin, works for me but I am a bloke. My old seat was a larger padded one and that got me sore underneath. I know what you mean with the scooting too, I tend to do it - not figured out why yet though.

Bruising could be caused by too an aggressive pedalling action, which is forcing you to bounce (sic) up and down on the saddle, very slightly.Try a more fluid pedal action at a lower gear resistance. With hill training you could be up and down in the saddle too much, relax, and try and stay seated for longer.(or go completely the opposite, don't sit down).

By jove Chezza, you may have something! When I race in my tri shorts with minimal padding i havent experienced bruising despite pumping/bouncing/scooting/jiggling in all the excitement and whatnot. maybe like too much padding under a horse's saddle can cause pressure points, this is happening to me!

    To summarise:

less padding and bouncing plus application of special cream=happy jess's bits. Hooray! [:D]

PS everyone seems to scoot a bit too so this is fine [8|]

no i can't do it, I can't lower myself to make a joke about the special cream....

Oi, md6, can't you change that profile picture.

It's already baking hot, and somehow my Garmin 405 has a flat battery. So I'm waiting for that to charge before I can head out on the long hilly bike route that I've been plotting all week. I'm chomping at the bit. Already really thirsty. And it's going to be really baking by the time I get out.

And every time I see that giant mug of cool refreshing beer.... if I succomb, I'll never get out!

    That doesn't really help.

But it is no coincidence that the pockets on my jersey are exactly the right size for three packets of malt loaf. Hmmm....

    33% charged now!
