What to wear under cycle shorts?

So am I supposed to go commando? I've got some dznuts cream for the chamois, but then realised if I have pants on, doesn't this defeat the object?

Nothing. The shorts are shaped to avoid seams and discomfort. Anything else will screw up into bunches of blister/sore inducing material.

You want to treat them like underwear - i.e. a fresh pair for every ride. They should be OK being washed at a nice eco-sound 30 degrees.

Black is a good colour! (to avoid see throughness).

Keep a look out a Aldi and Lidl if you have them near you, you can often pick up some reasonable ones for general training (short rides and turbo stuff) for £5-7 when they have their offers on, although I do prefer slightly better quality ones on rides over 40K.
