S11, as a green named admin, can you make this a "sticky" thread, which will keep it at the top?
  • Im a web developer...

if there aren't any proper web designers out there (ie, people who do this for a living) and the stuff is simple then i can probably do it. some others may have emailed mr conehead sir but if not then he has my email and i'm happy to do what i can.

...ah... looks like coma is admitting to his guilty secrets of webmastering

I can only lock the topic, not keep it sticky......

If I lock it, then you can't reply on it.... I'll keep looking.

I thought TomTris offered his services... That right Tom?
  • I've got a mate who earns his crust designing webpages. Sure he'd do it if he has a spec of what's required. I'll sound him out.

As well as techy help putting the site together, has anyone got ideas on content? Ideas so far are to keep it simple but things like

    - obligatory world domination mission statement/recruitment/propaganda from Sir Mr C
    - a space where people can post race times/stats and reports
    - latest news
    - latest offers
    - diary of upcoming races
    - bike porn

help me out, there must be more!

The website comes with some fancy stuff including blogs and forums. I'll check if it has one, but a wiki maybe handy where all those invaluable tips from the forum can be filed away. Ideas for later maybe.

In term of admin, the site has email addresses (1000 of em) so maybe a distribution list for the webdudes?

    Hi guys, brother rice here

Ive finally knocked something up so go along and checkout http://bcttt.com/ Theres not too much there at the moment, but its a starting point for the development so lets get your ideas!

You will be able to create a user account and then post up your results, event photos, perhaps race reports as well? for the world to see just how great BCTTT are!

Let me and Steve know your thoughts!

Key contacts and how to join, prices etc are always hard to find on these sites, so maybe details on that etc.....

A link to key races of the season - just some closed links to Human Race...Mazda etc and some others...oops just noticed that's already on the list...

Hell, i cant even manage to post a flamin avatar, BexH did mine for me the last time. Pfft!
  • the killer app for these kind of sites are podcasts and videoblogs.

People want to hear about training, how to train, food, misc tri info etc etc especially if your going down the informative route.

Site is quality, just wondering which region does South Yorkshire fit into ?? as it is not the Midlands and not the North East ??

Should there be a members only area (username & password)
  • Fantastic site- well done to everyone involved!

Love the site fellas, deffo needs a members area and once the forum us live that needs a membership scheme to be able to post...also should be an area of that forum for full members...(rather than just people registered on the website)
on the idea of a wiki, we tried it with my bike club (northwestbikers.net)...(oh motorbikes btw...not cycling) and we found it was just open to attack....spammers etc..and we all know there are loads that have a go at that...so i'm not too keen on that.

As i wont be on the regional revolutionary council (conehead is already looking after the NW) i'm happy to help out with the site (especially from a mod/admin point of view on the forum) and have spoke to Dan about this via email..i have plenty of time on my hands so should be able to bring something to the table on this.

I know a bit about creating podcasts if thats something you want to look at for website?
  • podcasts are a must, id like to hear some podcasts on triathlon training and im not even a serious trithlete.

Now I'm thinking of creating podcasts people can download to their 'generic mp3 player' and enjoy on their runs/turbo trainer sessions I could babble on, have guest speakers....interviews...music....race results....highlights from the forum....lowlights from the forum.....my dreams of becoming a radio DJ are coming true....
  • Also on an offshoot, if your putting on forums, PHPBB3 is very good and very easy to modify for your needs, i use an unmodded version on my forum if you want to peek/play http://www.davidbattersby.net/phpBB3/

Just thought that 'soundbites' or interviews from different forum/BCTTT members could be recorded over skype and included into possible podcasts which would be great. This would make the podcasts more 'interactive'

    Hi guys,

Yes you will all be able to sign up to the website, but there will be a privs scheme in place, this is what im thinking at the mo:

General Site sign up = gives you access to view and post comments on public articles only (i.e news on the home page)

Members = Members will sign up like normal, once signed up they can put in there real name and membership number etc and press a button called 'validate as member'. This will ping me, conehead or someone and we will automaticly check off your name against the current members list and give you member privelges. Member privs will include the ability to upload race photos to the gallery, post results, and post race reports. Members will also get access to members only pages such as the discounts page and a tips/tricks/special members only articles page. And any other thing you think members should have!

Regional leaders = they will have all the abilities of the members, however they will also be able to post news which will appear on the main home page.

Podcasts, videos etc. can be submitted by any member, but will only be downloadable by other members?

Oh and yes and for the forum I was thinking of a phpBB, but i was thinking of using a forum which could be intergrated into the WP backend of the site, using the same user database (so you dont have to sign up to the forum AND the website seperatly). I have to check both of these routes out though! For now it may be easier just to use phpBB, so admins will be needed to stop spam such as what appears on here quite frequently.

Let me know how this sounds, and keep the suggestions coming!
    Brother Rice
  • Coney my man you can integrate your PHPBB3 logins with the website.

www.subfighter.com does this. Take a look at their website, its quite similar in design to yours (news, forums, login etc etc)

I would be happy to be admin/mod of the forum if you need volunteers?
