Hi

Hi and nice to find somewhere I can ask loads of questions!
I am 41, single parent with my 11 year old son living with me full time. We like to share things and do lots together which is why I have joined this forum. We want to start training and enter triathlons.
I have booked a swimming lesson for us tomorrow (Monday) and have bought my son a good set of trainers and looking for a small enough bike for him (within our/my budget). The aim is for me to enter and complete (hopefully) a sprint distance this year and my son to enter a triathlon and finish this year also.
I have been looking online for some cheapish tri suits and wetsuits for us both. My son should be ok as he is a normal size for an 11year old. Me on the other hand seems not to be normal! I am 6'1" with a 46" chest and 36" waist. Tri suits that I have been looking at are for racing snakes! Can anyone recommend an outfit for me please? Something that will make getting a wetsuit off easier and dry out quickly, comfortable etc.
Any other tips and suggestions will be very welcome as well. Such as a bike for my son! We went and had a look at the club relay championship last weekend at Gosfield lake. Very good course and organisation by the look of it. Took some pics that I can post if you want to have a look?
Many thanks

    Firstly welcome to the forum,
And secondly welcome to the most addictive and rewarding sport you will ever participate in. The questions you have about gear (tri-suits and wetsuits) would be best sorted if you can get yourself down to a triathlon retailer. Wetsuits are a very personal thing and what one person may recomend may not suit you. There are a few sites that do wetsuit hire, these are especialy good for guys entering the sport like yourselves. Two types of trisuit, one piece and two piece, I personaly prefer one piece. Try some on and see which suits you best.

I have to commend you on getting your son involved too as its good to here of young enthusiastic people getting into the sport. Good luck

Hello and welocme to the mad house we call the 220 forum!
A great choice you have made in triathlon. You can now expect to have no sare time and less cash than ever but have a great sense of fitness and forefillment.

I would get your self fitted for a tri suit. I wen to TriU in Yeovil Somerset and bought a size bigger than i would have if I ordered of the net.
There are plenty of Tri shops about so defo get fitted. hey will do wet suits to.

Goodluck to you and your son and enjoy.

Thank you for your warm welcomes. How can I find local triathlon specialists near me? There are none locally that advertise in 220. May be worth travelling a bit?
Another question I forgot to add (don't worry there will be others!) is that I wear glasses. Ok for the bike and run but not so good for the swim. Any tips so I can be able to see where I am going?

have you tried contact lenses? do a few swims in some (indoor and outdoor) and see if you get on with them! good luck and enjoy! where you based (that way one of us may be able to let you know about local tri shops).

hi and welcome to the forum, hope you and your son enjoy the slightly cracked world of tri

if you really don't fir the standard tri-suit sizing then you could also try a seperate tri-top and tri-short, that way you can get something that fits well. as others have said it is well worth getting fitted properly to check what sizing you take. when i get round to buying a trisuit in the distant future i can't see buying that sort of thing online going well for me!

i wear specs although my correction is quite small so i can see well enough to run from the pool to the bike transition. for most races i use disposable contacts but for training i just go without and run around blearily.

if contacts aren't your thing then one thing you could look for is prescription goggles. i bought a pair for my other half and they cost £25-30 (a fair few years ago though!). you could run to transition in them and then grab your regular specs.
