£1000 bike?

I've earmarked £1000 for a road bike, and it's pretty much come down to the Focus Cayo from Wiggle

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/Default.aspx?Main=CategoryProducts.aspx&Cat=cycle&w=0&CategoryName=Bikes%20-%20Road

and the Ribble Dedacciai SC61.10A/Ultegra 10 Carbon Monostay

http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/details.asp?D=X&Cat=RIBBLE&Section=XRIB&GenCode=RIBBXRIB0900

Dose anyone have any advice? On either, or others?

I like the fact they both come with ultegra drive trains.

I'm looking for a longer distance tri bike, 70.3 and full IM, but do intend to race some olympics along the way. I'm a pretty big guy, 6'2 and about 100kg, and to be honest I want a comfy bike for long distances training and racing.

Cheers Chris

  • I was looking at a similar Ribble build, but I also looked at Planet X:

Can't comment on your choices as I'm looking for my first road bike since I was a kid...

New Planet X will be arriving at chez BFC next week! With some sexy add on's! Cheers for the spot Rob, looked at Planet X over the summer, but they were well out of my price range. Andy was really helpful, and you also get a choice of stem, crank, handlebar width and chainset and cassette ratios. Much better than wiggle and more carbon than ribble! Will post once I've ridden it!
  • Look forward to reading about it - it might be all I can do for a while, the missus has decided she now wants underfloor heating in the new conservatory and that costs... you guessed it... roughly the same as the bike[:(]

    At least I'll have a warm @!$£ [:D]

New Planet X arrived this morning, rode it about 40km around Richmond Park this afternoon, and it was awesome. It looks like its alot more expensive than it is but much more importantly it rides beautifully. I was out with 2 friends, one on a Specialized S-Works Tarmac (Dura Ace), the other on a Gios Carbon (Campag Record) and even though my whole bike cost less than their groupsets they both though it was a top bike when they rode it!

Oh, and it is prettier than you could ever imagine, it knocks spots off any of the stock in my local Evans!

    LOL,

    one very happy

Ohmygod that's a lot of bike for the money! Better start saving now, and coming up with some plausible explanations for my wife (um, we don't really need that new cooker, now, do we? but I really do need this new bike...)

I have to say, I am so impressed with this bike, it tears strips off anything in my LBS for even £1500 in the sale!!!
