New bike!!!!

Sorry but have to share what a good time I've just had sneaking off at lunchtime (giving some research to a student to mind for me ) to pick up my first ever road bike and take it for a spin.

I was a bit worried about it but I love it!!!! It is sooo quiet and quick. The builders must have thought I was insane cruising up and down the road with an immense grin on my face.

I never thought my back would be up to a road bike but it seems to be fine, still need a bit of practise not keen on flying downhill and not being quite sure what the surface is like round the next corner.....

Might need to get a compact gear set though......... or just get fitter fast!

Sorry boring post but I love this bike! Might hate it if the bike course on Saturday is hilly

Give us the details, make, model, spec, colour etc. Any pictures? It's been a while since some of us had the joy of a new bike, and a virtual new bike is as close as we can get.

Good work - I still remember clearly when I convinced my flatmate that he should buy a bike, he hadn't owned one since being a child and went out and bought a second hand road bike. When he came flying up the drive at the front of our building I think I spotted the biggest grin I've ever seen him wearing. Since then he keeps coming back from the bike shop with more and more kit - I think I'm more to blame than to thank now

Tell us, tell us, tell us ... we want to know ... what bike have you got?

You can't stop there ... it's a law of triathlon that you must tell everyone about any bling and shiny kit that you have just bought, so we can all think 'mmm I could do with one of those'.

I am getting my new Boardman Team Carbon tomorrow, I am so effing giddy. Why oh why can't they stay open to midnight!!!

I remember my first road bike, it felt like i was flying 6 inches off the surface of the road - no feeling like it!!

    Ok ok,

So it's a Raleigh Team Airlite Carbon 2008 like this:

    http://www.nationalcycles.co.uk/raleigh ... -2008.html

Only mine has red and black stripy tyres which is obviously faster I'll post a piccie at the weekend if you still want one

I got a deal on the bike from the LBS who wanted to shift it.

Bravely went drafting practise this evening despite needing some more handling practise and it went well! I had fun (although I was slow, slow slow - on the other hand I didn't know I could go that fast!).

Next test team time trial on Saturday - wish me luck!

Of course we want photo's, not webste downloads, but real photos of it in it's aw carbon state. Close up shots of all the ket components.

And shadowone1, same applies. Don't tease us with "heading down on sat to get it", TO GET WHAT?

i'm sat here currently waiting for parcelforce to deliver my first ever road bike....i've only had a hybrid before (and a MBT before that) so i'm really excited and cant wait to have a go...i just hope they come early....lol...
mine is not a full carbon one like yours (though its light and has the obligatory carbon forks) but its a step up for me and i cant wait.

i'll pop some pics up too once i've got it and put it together (i hope)

ok have to jump in as well ...picked up my Trek 2.3 on sunday from Bridgtown...and have spent the last 4 days with the stupid grin fixed in place...coming from my iron horse of a MTB it goes like a rocket....
even went out last night in the rain and still it felt fantastic...few skills to re-learn like cornering/drinking out of bottle/not watching top speed on cateye/which gear to climb in/...but it's getting there!...i know people said there would be a difference between mtb and road bike but it is incredible the step up....

Ok, So here is a piccie of the new steed. Excuse the back ground but that's what our spare room looks like at the moment I'll exchange the riser for a black one when the LBS gets a delivery.

Which components did you want close ups of TRIUmphant?

Durhamvam, what's the deal with the steerer tube? Its like 17 feet long sticking out of your lovely bike! I can't quite see what those spacers with little eye hooks are just above the top of the frame are either. But surely if you've got the seat as far forward as possible on the rails you'd be sitting as far upright as if you were on a commuter. Are your hips really inflexible? I think after a few weeks of riding you'll find that you can move your stem down about a meter.

Yeah you're right, Danny_s got a really long riser on at the moment to let the dodgy back get used to new position - plan is to move things down slowly as I get stronger (it's got these washer things that you can move down in stages). I never thought my back would be up to any sort of road bike so taking things gently to begin with so as not to bugger myself up. It'd be a lot more disappointing and a waste of money if I went straight away for a really aggressive riding position and damaged myself so that I was afraid to get on the damn thing rather than putting up with stupid looking position for a while.

Softly, softly catchy monkey after all.
