Hey guys, does anyone know the best way to calculate ideal heart rate (think it's 80%) something to do with your age x a figure then divided by something else? Just interested to know that I'm not about to give myself a heart attack whilst taking out my stress on the bike in the gym as I don't have a heart rate monitor for outdoor stuff...

The only true way to tell is to do a proper HR max test. (Of course don't do this if you're unfit, as that could give you the heart attack you ttying to avoid).

The big stumbling block is determining MHR, a 'rule of thumb' is 220 - age but here - which I quite like - is also a link for several methods of MHR calculation:
