Carrying Fluids in an Ironman??

Hi guys, just kitting my bike out and wonder what people find preferable for an Ironman ride, I'm using a triathlon bike, so all 'aero'd up'.

Options to me would appear to be either the aero bottle clamped to the aero bars, with a bottle in the usual bottle holder, or a saddle mounted bottle cage with two bottles in.

I've previously gone for two bottles in conventional bottle holders.

I'm trying to decide what to do and am interested in what set up's other people have.

By the way, if I'm to go with a rear mounted bottle holder, anyone know of any decent one's out there??
  • With saddle mounted bottle cages the only recommendation us don't. Whichever one you get and whatever you put in them the general feedback us you'll lose something.

Standard bottle cages work fine. Just remember during the event to only use cheap bottles, as you exchange empties for ready filled bottles in feed stations, so you don't get back what you took with you.

I had read that before, so looks like I'm going to go with an aero bar mounted bottle and spare in the usual bottle cage, which is kinda what I was hoping as I still need somewhere to keep spare tube's, gas canisters etc.

Thanks for the tip about bottles, I'll make sure I take some old one's with me.

There have been studies about bottle carriage, can't find it at the moment as loooking after my sick cat:

Aero: Aero bottle, aero bar mounted
Aero: Standard bottle & cage Downtube
    Un aero: Rear carriers

What about this, not ever so aero though. Can put in your own drinks. Although this guy is obviously using it so he doesn't have to go back to the bar whilst he's cruising the room chatting up the ladies.

Available in pink for a certain BCTTT member!
