Stupid question re. Shimano 105

Hi all,

I'm new to triathlon and have only just recently bought a bike. I've been out on it a couple of times and have got used to the right hand lever but can't figure out how the left one (the front wheel selector) works. Does anyone know where I can get an instruction manual for this groupset?

Thanks, LoR

The front selector only changes between the two (possibly 3) chainwheels. Generally this feels more like a friction shift when changing to a larger chainwheel so you have to push the larger lever much further while pedalling to get it to move the chain. When moving to a smaller chainwheel a push on the smaller lever will actvate the spring and jump you to a smaller chainwheel.

If you put the bike upside down on the floor at home, turn the pedals and play with the levers you can see how it works and get a feel for how much you have to move the levers.

  • Thanks all. I'm ashamed I hadn't thought of turning the bike upside down though!
