Garmin 305 - elevation query

Got a new Garmin 305 and went for a 17k run. Elevation gain in GarminConnect was 198m (elevation loss 208m = loop to bottom of car park), however, in Garmin Training Centre it was 384m ascent (and similar a 398 decsent as I did a loop). Both times info came straight from device download. Any reason why the Grmin Connect would show alsmost twice as much??

Errr.. Elevation is just a guess.. and they've used different guessing algorithms in different places...

I know that GPS' are not so good/accurate on elevation as latitude & longitude if using satelites rather than barometry. The discrepancy quoted is a bit much though.

Check out by what Garmin means by ascent and elevation gain. Could ascent mean the total climb you've done by adding up all the climbs and elevation gain mean the height difference between the lowest and highest points on your run? TrackLogs gives both bits of info.
