20 years - 10 min slower..

Sat and had a look at the 1989 ironman race - winning time 8h 9min
2009 winning time was 8h 20min.

Just thinking that 20 years of equipment development, (carbon bikes, aerobars, gels, helmets, shoes and what have you, have not made massive differences in finishing times..i.e. im not gonna run off and buy more bloody gear.

It wont help anyway - maybe i just go for a training session instead and not drink that beer in the weekend...

U never know, maybe it was a constant tailwind??

    1999 - 8h 17min..

So dont run off by a 10k bike just yet lads.

  • there is a debate about this, some people reckon back in the 80's athletes were drafting off the press vehicles.....

Well, to sum it up I told my wife about above times. And she went:
Fine - you don't need more gear so.

Shivnath Singh ran a marathon barefoot in 2h:12min:00 back in the 70's.
Imagine all the time and weight we'll save of not using shoes!
