Duathlon - Cramping

Hi all,

In the process of training for a 1st duathlon.
I'm finding that shortly after moving from run to bike I get shooting cramps in my calfs.

I've never had a problem with this when out riding without having run, or riding after a swim in a tri.

Any thoughts? - Could salt levels be depleating in the run aspect?

Thanks

A

If you experience a calf cramp, my advice is to try rubbing and massaging the calf muscles. And if you take "acid reducers" and have frequent or occasional cramping, ask you health professional about alternative acid reducers or blockers.

When it comes to cramp you need to explore what is causing it.

It could be a few things

    1. Not enough strtching before the run.
    2. Incorrect riding position(which it sounds like its not)
    3. hydration
    4. power calf muscle function.

You could try those calf gaurds made out of compression material!

Diet might be worth looking at? Also do you practice a brick type session. Run Cycle. It will educate the muslce of what to expect and might help.
