2010 Specialized Trivent cycling shoes

Been looking into buying a pair, but the velcro straps open toward the crank, as opposed to my current Lake shoes that open away from the crank, which I thought had clear advatages when dismounting into transition.
Why does a seemingly specific tri shoe have this? Are there any advantages? Anyone got any experiences of both?
