Best bike for £5-600 - 220 shoot out???

A while ago 220 did a shoot out for the best bike for around the £5-600 mark. Can anyone remember which bike came out on top?
If not can anyone recommend a bike is this price bracket??

    I have a Trek 1.2 (2008 model). Think the current version probably costs around £600. Havn't tried anything else so I have nothing to compare it to, but it works for me.

    From memory the 3 bikes that came out best were:

    Pinnacle Expede
    Spec Allez sport
    Giant Defy 2

    I bought a Giant Defy 2 for £725 from local bike shop (a bargain as everywhere else £799plus) having tried Spec Allez Elite. Spec is a nice cruiser and very comfy but Giant is a bit more sporty IMOH

    I am no expert but I think you can get Allez sport or Defy 3 for 5-600 which are same frame but just different shifters/brakes
