Chamois Cream

Guys, apologies for requesting the gruesome details but how liberally do you apply chamois cream? I have never used the stuff before and am considering purchasing some. Do you put it all over your arse, crack and all, and completely cover the family jewels or do you not need to be so generous ? I suppose what I'm basically asking is that is its purpose to stop skin on skin chafing or is it used more to stop skin on saddle rubbing?

    I smother it liberally all over the chamois direct. Cool and tingling initially, but then comfort

    Liberally on the seams of the chamois, then a big dollop under and around the ballbag
