Bike Advice

Hi

I'm a triathlete with three seasons under my belt. As part of my bike training this season I did a couple of sportives on my road bike, which has seen better days, and have really enjoyed it.

As a consequence I've decided to sell my TT bike so I can buy a decent road bike that I can use for both triathlon's and sportives. However I have no idea what type of frame / bike would best suit for both disciplines.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Well my understanding is that a Sportive specific bike has an even more 'relaxed' geometry than a road bike which in turn is more relaxed than a Tri bike.

    But if we were to split the difference we end up with a road bike which I would suggest is ideally a carbon or titanium frame and possible carbon wheels wheels to soak up the bumps and lumps to get max enjoyment from a Sportive, light weight would be good for climbing

    There - that's started, my fellow forumites will probably be able to suggest something better but the PX with SRAM Red looks good.

    No brainer if it fits - Cervelo S1 (or S2 if you can afford it). Does both road and tri positions. I think the recommendation is to get two seat posts and drop bars plus seperate aerobars. LBS should be able to cut the cables to a switchable length and show you how to swap them over depending on event.

    I've not posted on here that often but could not resist to say that the Valdora PHX tri frame is ideal for both TT and road . When reviewed by 220 magazine their tester said it handled like a road bike.
