...made his escape on a Giant time trial bike

DANVILLE -- A thief backed a stolen truck into the window of a bicycle store over the weekend and rode off on an expensive bike, the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office said.

A patrol officer came upon the aftermath of the break-in -- a stake-bed truck backed through a store window in the 100 block of Hartz Avene -- about 6:10 a.m. Sunday, said Chief Steve Simpkins.

Simpkins said the driver was unable to back out because the truck wheels ended up stuck too high to drive. Missing from the store was a Giant-brand Trinity Advance bicycle, valued at a minimum of $6,000, which the driver is believed to have used as a getaway vehicle.

what makes me chuckle is the thought of some hillbilly in boots, jeans and a lumberjack shirt trying to figure out how the bloody hell you change gear !

Why would you buy it then immediately sell it?

This is as bent as a nine bob note!
  • I raced the Granite-man (sprint) in Guernsey last year and it's a very small island with quite a tight knit triathlon community .. would be suprised if it's been sneaked onto the island from the US for a personal collection sale .. but then the criminal network may run deep.

Nice to be back on the forum and to see the same names going strong (and going long ) .. i'm back from Australia and starting training again in prep for 2011 (squandered my time in Oz being a backpacker, with a bit of non-serious running, swimming and surfing), next season I hope for my A-race to be the Guernsey Granite-man HIM 11/09/2011 ... is a fantastic location if anyone is looking for a new race next year.

now just need a new bike .. upgrading from <£200 to the £600-£800 bracket, carbon seat post and everything .. serious stuff.

Granite man, On my radar for next year. Would have been 2010 but they didn't run it this year. How is the race, organisation etc, recommended.

Wife has family out there so we go over every couple of years, and 2011 is on the cards.

Dangermouse is probably jesting here, but to be fair to the guy selling the bike...paypals cut out of the final sale would be huge! Although saying that...I'd rather have cash
