Heart rate zone for race pace

Hello all
I am brand new to triathlon training and was wondering what percentage of my maximum heart rate would be my race pace? and do I even need to worry about tempo training this early on? I have read a few conflicting answers online and would appreciate the advice.
Thanks

Hi##I wouldnt worry about HR in race conditions yet,
Spend the winter laying down some good base training to build a good fitness level and worry about pace and HR in the spring! IMO
  • Mixed advice will because (1) it's coming from ill informed people, (2) it's coming from people who race different distances

Race HR is the rate that gets you round in the fastest possible time without running out of blood glucose (which should be mitigated via a nutrition strategy). AFAIK its a personal thing you find out in training.

I reckon always incorporate intervals and tempo sessions. I've been reading stuff about long slow distance lately which makes me question if its best use of time (e.g. The Time Crunched Cyclist), however currently I'm doing it.
