Light bracket...daft question

Now my bikes have oversize frames (Trek road and MTB), my old light brackets don't fit. Looking at new cateye lights and brackets. The bracket says over size is for 31mm frames...so the real stupid question how are they measuring this ?..is this circumference?... are there other brackets avaialble?
2nd winter in this game and still learning

    Had this very problem last year with new commute bike, ended up buying a spacebar attachment to avoid having to replace every light I own because my handlebars were now much fatter than previous bikes.

    I think you are talking about the diameter of the handlebars here, 31.8mm for oversize. I think thats pretty standard for the cateye lights. Im assuming you are going to attach the bracket onto the handlebars??

    got it, makes sense now...thanks... just measured my bars...91'ish mm circumference...checked my old school books to work out diameter and that will be about 28mm so the 31mm brackets do the job...off to wiggle...
