Ironman 70.3 / Middle Distance Race

Afternoon,

I'm looking to do a 70.3 / middle-distance race next year with the view to doing a full Ironman in 2012 but i'm struggling to find any in my neck of the woods (Anglia).

Am i just being really thick and looking in the wrong place or is Anglia not generally and area where these sort of events are held.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. A light helping of verbal abuse is also expected.

Cheers

depends where in the angle you are. cowman is near milton keynes and look east used to cover bedford so i'm sure that makes it local... sketchy reasoning though...

I seem to remember a thread about a new middle distance race likely to happen in Ely in 2011 but can't remember if it was on this forum or another. Might be worth googling.

Also a new set of races which includes a middle and a longer one that isn't iron distance but a damn good distance has just been announced through my tri club. It's all West Essex based so depends on your definition of 'Anglia' I guess:

    Hope thats of some use.
  • Thanks for the info!

Being based in Ipswich, any of the events mentioned are within travelling distance. The Dengie events in West Essex sound particularly interesting.

I don't know if i have been looking at the wrong websites but eveything seemed to be located on the South-West Coast.

I will definately have a look into the events mentioned, thanks again.

Good places to look for events are:

main btf website, look at events section albeit that most won't be up yet for 2011 but simply look at 2010 dates as most tri's attempt to stick tot he same weekend(ish) each year.

    Also have a look at

    http://www.trifinder.co.uk/

As it has far more than triathlons listed.
  • Wasn't there one in Kent last year? Outrageous Half??

I am near Colchester and had to travel to Weymouth last year to get one - I didn't hear of the above until after I had booked Weymouth - not aware of any in Anglia so far
  • Dengie does look good though and the cycle route should be very nice! Bit close to IM UK for me unfortunately

What about the Vitruvian? I think you will always have to travel a certain distance to anything that is further than Olympic distance.
