We're in the Yorkshire Post!

Hi all,
I'm a newbie and I'm doing IMWales as my first IM next year to raise funds for a powered chair for my 23 month old daughter, who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
You can read all about it in the Yorkshire Post here:

I swam 500m freestyle for the first time ever yesterday - only 3,300 to go....
Cheers,
Andrew
p.s. You can donate at http://www.justgiving.com/getbeatricemobile

Andrew, thats a very touching story. Good luck with the fundraising and getting Beatrice mobile. I hope all goes well with Henry.

The tough part of the Ironman is the training, get yourself a training plan, put the hours in and you'll have done the tough bit. Get this right and you'll be able to enjoy the day and the immense pride that crossing the line will give you.

    Good luck.

I did my first Ironman this year and loved every minute. You will learn a lot about yourself during the journey!

    Andrew,
All the best with your IM training and IM.
I sincerely hope you achieve your fundraising target and that everything turns out ok with Henry.
While many may do IM on a whim you have a fantastic cause to keep you inspired.
    All the best.

And an incredible challenge that you have set yourself.

Do not be afraid to get as much advice and help as possible - some of it may well be worth more than a donation!

This book should definitely be on your list to Santa this year. Unlike many other books, it gives the best insight into what doing this sort of challenge is really like.

You might also do well to hook up with Ben Laws http://www.teamlaws.co.uk/ who has embarked on a similar challenge for next year. No doubt you will be both hitting the same sort of obstacles, and a problem shared is a problem solved!

Finally, you might want to take a look at http://forum.bcttt.com/ which is where Ben tends to hang out most of the time. It is a loose club/confederation of people, who, (as perhaps you will be doing), are starting from the back, achieving incredible results, and, finishing, ahem, at the back. But the most important thing is that we are finishing. And a mutual support network is really important, together with all the advice that brings - especially from seasoned competitors.

Anyway, the very best of luck with your challenge, and keep posting updates!
  • I am here Jack.
